_knowscape is a digital data territory and an experimental project: a space made of links, connections, relations, knowledge: a networked space. initially _knowscape has been conceived as an alternative multi-user browser [ _knowscape, 2001 ] using data *tracking* and *profiling* techniques to question, to reverse them, so to finally produce open data territories, shared browsing experiences and *open users' profiles*.
----
_knowscape has evolved and became in 2003 a mobile downloadable space, a variable space with no fixed or frozen size as well as no definite location: _knowscape mobile, a mobile information architecture that has always both a temporary location in the physical space and a world wide digital one over the Internet.
----
from 2003 on, _knowscape mobile moves to various places, performances, demos and installations through physical space. this downloadable relational and digital spatiality creates a mobile space of reversed surveillance, an *open data architecture*. therefore, _knowscape mobile questions and transforms in a soft and transitory manner the functionality, the materiality, the unicity and the scale of each sensible space it is installed in.
----
_knowscape mobile is thus an architectural space temporarily associating territory of data and physical space, linking architecture, knowledge and browsing, associating different type of presence.

It must be stressed that this project, even if using web3d tech, is mostly presented in Demo or Installations mode where we are present (online presence is ok as well). It is both a networked 3d multi-user environment and a geo-localised architecture.
----
As it is an experimental browser (the work follows the previous web3d selected work _knowscape), it must be stressed as well that it does only work well with html sites (there is an html parser that reads html files and then an html to vrml translator that builds the 3d environment). It does not work when sites with pop ups, some javascripts and “window.name” functions.

Diplays: the project has a lot of different diplays. One is the “_knowscape mobile” browser display (public access), another one is the “_knowscape mobile” observer access that let user witness what’s going on in the environment if users are connected. Behind the sms access (that is private and linked to specific phone number users) are several other private displays for installation/demo/performances. Behind this access we have the possibility to create “cave like installations” with connected views. This last display has been used for the Boston and Basel project.

Most of these displays are planed for a 1024x768 projection situation (or a 1024x768 screen situation).
