The Cardiac Museum

The Cardiac Museum is an interactive three-dimensional virtual museum that presents illustrative three-dimensional structures, movies, and images relating to the electrical system of the heart. Users can navigate through the museum by themselves or can take the guided tour, which follows a pre-set path that takes them through all areas of the museum. In addition to navigation, user interactions include rotation, zooming, and panning of three-dimensional structures along with a special featured structure that highlights user-specified components of the heart by translating them outside the main structure while both rotate. Visitors learn some of the basics of electrical wave propagation in the heart, particularly during arrhythmias, and can appreciate the complex spiral and scroll wave patterns observed. The museum is located in beautiful surroundings and includes attractive landscaping, including a large spiral-shaped garden path with matching spiral water fountains that carry one of the major artistic themes of the museum’s contents into its architectural design.
