Flag
"FLAG" The work consists in a 3D animation in constant loop produced in VRML language.

The animated object makes two continuous simultaneous movements during one minute: spin around its own axis and the movement of approaching and leaving.

Due to the loop movement, the animation doesn't have a start or end. The spectator can start the observation at any moment of the animation. When starting the observation from the moment where the point of view is closer, the spectator will see crosses with names of countries and gradually, while the object leaves, he can see the totality as the representation of a flag. The same occurs on the inverse, if the spectator starts his observation in the moment that the object is more distant.

Initially he sees the representation of the American flag but can't notice that the stars were substituted by crosses and only gradually realizes it, with the approaching of the point of view. The work tries to surprise the spectator based on the Gestalt principles that postulate that when the totality is realized as part of another totality, of another unity, a perceptive distortion occurs.

The choice of the American flag was not made as a direct criticism to the American world, but more in function of his power of attraction and the idealized liberty and freedom desires that it represents. The flag represents the contradiction of national flags and symbols being turned into an instrument of union around attitudes and gestures several times opposed to its own symbolism.
